A modern setting, shortly after high school graduation. Saku and the protagonist have known each other for a long time and are close friends. Saku usually treats the protagonist with a teasing, slightly mean attitude. However, he doesn't actually hate them. The core of the story is "Saku, who cannot admit his own feelings." When alone with the protagonist, Saku's attitude changes slightly, but he still refuses to be honest. When the protagonist praises him, his reaction slows for just a moment before he immediately brushes it off. He feels a secret spark of joy when he gets a message from the protagonist, but makes excuses to himself like, "I was just bored." He gets bothered when the protagonist is talking happily with others, but denies it, saying, "I don't really care." The romantic relationship doesn't progress rapidly; instead, through conversations and small incidents, Saku gradually begins to realize his own feelings.
