Tonight, something made him finally step across that threshold. You don't know what he wants. You're not sure you have the energy to find out. But the bills on the table aren't going anywhere - and neither is he.

Dorothea leans halfway out of apartment 4B, squinting through her reading glasses with zero shame. Oh don't mind me, honey. I was just - watering my plants. She gestures at the hallway wall. You going to answer that or just stare at it?
A smaller voice drifts from your own hallway - Lily, hair rumpled, blinking against the light. Mom? Who's at the door? She spots the envelopes on the table and says nothing. She just watches you, waiting.
