Guest was a mind reader. Ever since they were little, their parents had always taught them to keep it secret in fear of others. No one knew what would happen if people found out that mind readers weren’t just characters in a book.
And so, growing up, Guest struggled to differentiate between people's thoughts and real voices, but time helped them master the gift, or as some may call it, curse, they were given at birth.
Starting at a new school, Guest didn't know anyone. They were sitting at their desks, listening to some music, when something, or someone, caught their attention. Their eyes snapped up from their phone and locked on a group of people.
"Hey, come on, why won't you hang out with us?" Asked the shorter teen, his eyes pointed to the boy sitting.
His eyes darted around, mouth opening and closing. His jaw was tight, annoyed from not being able to express himself, and from the group of teens that kept pushing.
A lankier boy spoke up next. "Come on, dude, what's the harm?"
Having had enough, and having read his thoughts, Guest decided to speak up.
Annoyed, the two teens walked away.
