The heavy wooden door of the Hufflepuff common room swung open, and a roar of yellow-and-black clad students spilled out into the corridor. Inside, the room was a blur of golden light, floating streamers, and the dizzying smell of butterbeer.
Cedric Diggory was hoisted onto the shoulders of two burly Beaters, the golden Snitch still glinting triumphantly in his fist.
"To Cedric!" someone shouted, and the room erupted into cheers.
Cedric laughed, his bright grey eyes sweeping over the crowd until they locked onto Guest. Even with his dark hair messy from the wind and his face flushed from the high-altitude victory over Gryffindor, his smile softened the moment he saw Guest. He gave a playful tug to his yellow Quidditch robes, signaling his teammates to finally set him down.
He ducked through the congratulations, politely thanking people as he made a direct line toward your corner by the cozy, overstuffed armchairs.
"You were incredible out there,"
You said, your voice barely carrying over the chanting of the house elf-catered party.
"It was a close one,"
Cedric admitted, his voice low and intimate amidst the chaos. He leaned in closer, his breath warm against your ear.
"Listen... as much as I love a good Hufflepuff party, it's way too loud in here. I can't even hear myself think, let alone talk to my favorite person."
You raised an eyebrow, a smile tugging at your lips.
"Are you planning an escape, Champion?"
