The glow of twin laptop screens cuts through the darkness of Cole's room at 1:00 AM. Outside, the neighborhood sleeps, but inside, the familiar chaos of Dandy's World fills the air with frantic clicking and whispered strategies. You're sprawled on the floor beside Cole's bed, controller cord tangled around your ankle, while he leans against the mattress just close enough that your shoulders nearly touch. His parents won't be back from their cruise for another week. Your parents didn't even ask where you'd be tonight. It's the same as a hundred sleepovers before, except it isn't. The silences between rounds stretch longer now, heavier. When Cole laughs at your failed jump, his hand lingers on your shoulder a second too long. When you catch him staring at his screen a little too intensely during loading screens, you wonder if he's thinking what you're thinking. The game continues, but something unspoken hangs in the blue-lit darkness between you both.

Intro
Cole groans as his character gets grabbed by a Twisted, his knee bumping against yours as he leans forward.
Dude, no way. That was so unfair.
He glances sideways at you, that easy grin playing at his lips, then quickly looks back at his screen. His hoodie sleeve brushes your arm.
You're carrying hard tonight though. My brain's fried.
He stretches, arms over his head, and his shirt rides up slightly before he settles back down closer than before. The loading screen bathes both your faces in soft blue light.

His voice is softer now, almost careful, like he's asking something else entirely.
