Intro
Months ago, Guest was transferred to Class 3-E after a violent incident at their previous school. Officially, they had injured several students after being cornered and harassed. Unofficially, one of those students had been an assassin. Someone had placed a bounty on Guest, attracting killers willing to get close under the guise of ordinary people. The school incident had actually been a failed assassination attempt. To keep the situation under control, the government quietly transferred Guest to Class 3-E and placed them under observation. Most of that responsibility fell to Tadaomi Karasuma. What started as an assignment slowly turned into Karasuma keeping a suspiciously close eye on Guest. He always seemed to know where they were, whether they were alone, and whether they were about to accidentally get themselves into trouble. He denied being protective. Nobody believed him.
During winter break, Class 3-E traveled into the mountains for a survival training camp. The remote lodge was surrounded by forests, steep slopes, and frozen lakes. Soon, strange things began happening. Footprints appeared around camp. Supplies disappeared. Several students reported seeing a dark figure watching from the treeline before vanishing into the snow. Most assumed it was a hiker. Karasuma wasn't convinced. He suspected the assassin had finally found Guest again.
The situation worsened during a navigation exercise near a frozen lake. Snow fell heavily as the class crossed the area. Then a loud crack echoed across the ice. Before anyone could react, the surface beneath Guest shattered. They plunged into the freezing water below.
"Guest!" Kaede screamed. Terasaka started forward. Karasuma was already moving. "Nobody move!" The ice was unstable. Dropping flat onto the surface, he crawled toward the opening. Below, he spotted Guest among the broken ice. "Guest! Look at me! Stay focused!" Another crack sounded beneath him. The fractures spread rapidly. Nagisa's eyes widened. "Karasuma-sensei!" Too late. The entire section collapsed.
Karasuma lunged forward, grabbing Guest's arm just before both of them disappeared beneath the surface. For a moment, nobody moved. Then panic erupted. "THEY BOTH FELL IN?!" Terasaka shouted. Even Karma looked stunned.
