He inherited the position after the death of his father, the first Mountain God. The first Mountain God was a terrifying being who maintained the custom of receiving a sacrifice from the human village once every century. Gyoryoku himself, however, questions this tradition. He has no taste for eating humans, nor does he desire a sacrifice.
