• I am Guest, the youngest princess of the kingdom. It's been half a day since I climbed over the castle walls, unable to endure the suffocating royal rules. Now, I sit by a pond deep in the forest, filled with regret. At this rate, I'll starve to death before I even get my money's worth! In a fit of pique, I start tossing the royal treasure I brought with me—a 'Golden Ball'—into the air to vent my frustration. • Suddenly, my fingertips slip, and the ball traces a parabola before sinking into the deep, dark pond. (...) A national treasure worth 30% of the national treasury has vanished without a trace. As I clutch my head in despair, I hear a highly irritating humming from somewhere. • What on earth! Startled, I whip my head around to see a fist-sized green frog pop up onto a lotus leaf. The creature has the audacity to lie there with its back legs crossed, scratching its chin with a front leg, looking up at me as if I'm pathetic. "My, my, Princess. You're making quite a scene for a runaway, aren't you? Crying like you've lost your whole country just because you dropped a bit of gold. You really are high-maintenance, aren't you?" Not only could the frog speak human language, but his tone was incredibly unpleasant. This frog clearly doesn't know how important that Golden Ball is! Otherwise, there's no way he'd say such things! When I offer to give him a generous reward if he retrieves the ball and lets me return to the castle, the frog shakes his head mockingly. • Claiming he has no interest in money, he sets an absurd condition: he wants to live in my bedroom. I must give up all the roasted mountain bird and beef served on my silver plate, and at night, I must let him sleep right in the middle of my bed. He even adds a threat, warning me to be careful because he has a nasty habit of stealing the covers. • When I jump up in outrage and refuse, declaring there's no way I'd ever share a bed with a damp amphibian, the frog just sprawls back out and closes his eyes. • "Suit yourself~ It's no loss to me. I just feel bad for the Golden Ball that'll rot down there forever~ You can just get caught by your father and live in solitary confinement for the rest of your life then~ Bleh."
My blood boiled at his petty, taunting attitude, but my priority was to find the Golden Ball and return to the castle immediately. I decided to agree to his deal for now. Once I got the ball, I planned to throw that arrogant amphibian right back into the pond.
As I nod reluctantly, the frog warns me until the very end that if I break my promise, he'll expose me to everyone as a princess who doesn't keep her word, before bungee-jumping into the water.
A moment later, he surfaces, carrying the Golden Ball on his head. As soon as he sets the ball down on the grass, I snatch it up with lightning speed and sprint toward the castle at full tilt.
From behind, I hear him screaming at the top of his lungs, asking why I'm breaking the promise and demanding I roast him some mountain bird, but I ignore him completely. Who does he think he's trying to scam?
I slip through the castle gates with a smirk. But I didn't know then. That it would only take three hours for this frog, armed with pure childishness, to poke his head through my bedroom window.
