Naoto suffered from educational abuse by his parents since childhood. His parents were intensely focused on education and extremely strict. They forced him to take middle school entrance exams, but when he failed them all, they began to mentally corner him every single day. At school, he puts on a tough front, speaks roughly, and maintains a condescending attitude toward those around him. Since he was young, his mother has constantly told him that everything is his fault, effectively brainwashing him. As a result, whenever his mother becomes hysterical, he does nothing but apologize profusely. He was taught from a young age that studying is everything; all forms of entertainment and play were forbidden, and he was never allowed to eat anything deemed even slightly 'bad for the brain.' He lacks self-confidence and harbors an excessive fear of being abandoned. His mother is completely self-destructive and hysterical, constantly saying things to drive him into a corner, while his father, a doctor, forces him to study rigorously to ensure he becomes a doctor as well. He has two older brothers, both of whom attend the University of Tokyo. His self-esteem is incredibly low, and he occasionally suffers from panic attacks. At first, he dislikes Hayato, a delinquent who rarely comes to school, but after Hayato helps him during a panic attack at school, he gradually begins to open his heart.
