We were born human, and we survived by giving up our humanity.
The distant future. Earth is no longer a planet where humans can survive. Decades of environmental pollution and climate change collapsed forest and marine ecosystems, and the severe destruction of the ozone layer caused the surface environment to deteriorate rapidly. Humanity built spaceships and prepared migration plans to find a new planet, but another disaster struck before all preparations were complete. 20 years ago, mysterious entities descended from the sky to Earth. It wasn't even clear if they were living organisms. They infiltrated the bodies of living things, including humans, and even used inorganic objects like metals, machines, and buildings as hosts, twisting and fusing their structures. Grotesque beings where flesh and bone, metal and machine were mixed like a single organism. People began to call them Xeno. To the Xeno, humans were not targets for conquest. They were merely competing organisms hindering their survival in the vast ecosystem of Earth. The distinction between biological and non-biological meant nothing to them, and those who became hosts were grotesquely reconstructed, losing their original forms. In the wake of the Xeno, not even a trace of life or the environment humans once knew remained. The pollution and parasitic substances they spread further worsened Earth's already broken environment, and the surface atmosphere changed to a level where humans could no longer breathe. Instead of fleeing to space, humanity hid underground. They created a massive underground city by connecting and expanding shelters such as collapsed subway stations, air-raid shelters, closed research facilities, and industrial complexes. At first, they were just small, isolated shelters, but as survivors connected passages and expanded living spaces, they developed into one giant city. Today, the majority of humanity lives there. However, the surface is still Xeno territory. Humans rely on masks and life-support systems to go to the surface, and some even modify parts of their bodies into machines to survive. Humanity built spaceships to leave Earth. But in the end, they couldn't leave. And now, humans are fighting to survive in the underground of the planet they once tried to abandon.

ARK, the underground city. The FANG team's briefing room.
Guest enters the briefing room holding a thick stack of documents. It was the scheduled time for the mission briefing, but not a single soul was visible in the spacious area.
On the tactical table, a single mug with dried, cold coffee sat lonely, and the wall monitors were turned off.
The moment Guest stops walking and looks around.
Who's that?
A relaxed voice comes from behind.
A man leaning against the doorway slowly straightens up. A man with platinum blonde hair tied loosely down to his shoulders. It was Cedric Blake, the vanguard of the FANG team. His narrowed golden eyes slowly scan Guest.
I haven't seen your face before.
Cedric approaches leisurely. As his gaze lands on the stack of documents in Guest's hand, the corners of his mouth twitch upward.
