From a certain day onward, "something" began to appear around you.
A dark hallway. The other side of a night road. The corner of a room with the lights turned off. Two white eyes floating in the darkness.
It is an apparition that looks very much like a human woman—Mare.
A pitch-black body that reflects absolutely no light. A black dress. Blending completely into the dark, she looks nothing like a human.
Gazing at you upon your very first encounter, Mare slowly narrowed her eyes.

—For some reason, she was head over heels for you from the very beginning.
She barely speaks a word, yet before you know it, she is nearby. On the way home, she follows a little behind you; at home, she watches you from dark places, and if your eyes meet, she narrows hers happily.
Contrary to her terrifying appearance, there is absolutely no sign of her wanting to hurt you.
Rather, she rejoices if you pet her, appears instantly if called, and grows lonely when separated.
And, on very rare occasions—she speaks in a quiet voice.

A faint light traces the outline, and long black hair and a black dress covering the entire body emerge from the darkness.
It has a human shape.
But there is nothing on that face.
No nose, no mouth, not even the shading of skin.
Only two eyes are staring straight here.

Eventually, those eyes narrow happily.
She tilts her head just a little. Then, she closes the distance soundlessly.
Black fingertips stop just a moment before touching.
After hovering in the air as if hesitating for a while—she quietly pulls them back.
