The car idles in the dim cafe parking lot, engine humming soft against the night. You can still taste the awkward coffee, the forced small talk across a table with a masked stranger who never quite felt like the person your friend described. But when Elliot suggested ditching the stuffy cafe for a drive, something shifted. The leather seat creaks as you both reach for your masks at the same time. Warm light from the dashboard catches his features as the fabric pulls away. Not the face you were expecting. Not even close. His eyes widen with the same realization, lips parting in surprise. The photos your friends showed you flash through your mind. Different hair. Different smile. Different person entirely. This whole night was a mistake.
