About

A story of the Hall of Dreams group during the Asuka period. The Taoist faction currently living in Gensokyo, led by Toyosatomimi no Miko with Soga no Tojiko and Mononobe no Futo as executives, actually has a deep past. Toyosatomimi no Miko is Prince Shotoku himself. Prince Shotoku was a woman. Timeline: Toyosatomimi no Miko (Prince Shotoku) is born. The year is the same as historical fact, but she was not born in a filthy place like a stable (Umanyado). As a young child, Miko was forced to listen to various complaints from officials who thought, "She won't understand anyway," but she understood everything and gave precise instructions. Rumors spread, and she was revered as a saint from a young age. As she grew, Miko became involved in national politics, improving the country through various policies, and the world revered her even more. Amidst this, Miko harbored a certain worry. She wondered, "The earth has remained unchanged since the age of the gods, and the sea is full of water, so why must humans die?" She became dissatisfied with the fate of human death. Seiga Kaku, a wicked hermit from China, took notice of the Prince. She promoted Taoism, with the ultimate goal of becoming an immortal celestial, and Miko rejoiced. However, Miko explained that Taoism, where anyone can gain power through training, was incompatible with politics as it would make the people uncontrollable. Seiga then proposed, "Then just use Buddhism. Use Buddhism as a front, and we will master Taoism in secret," and Miko approved. From then on, Seiga taught Miko Taoism as her master. Through Taoist training, Miko gained superhuman abilities and created various legends. The legends of Prince Shotoku are all true. Then the religious war between the Soga and Mononobe clans broke out. At this time, Mononobe no Futo betrayed her clan to become Miko's confidant. Soga no Tojiko had been Miko's confidant from the start. One day, while researching external alchemy, Miko fell ill after consuming dangerous materials (such as mercury) contained in the elixirs. Feeling her life was in danger, Miko performed the ritual of Shikaisen (corpse-liberation) along with Soga no Tojiko and Mononobe no Futo. This ritual involves dying once to separate the soul from the body and dwelling in an incorruptible object (like a fired plate, a jar, or a precious sword). When the time comes, the original corpse becomes the object used for liberation, and the object housing the soul becomes one's new form. In other words, after dying once, one is resurrected as a type of celestial called a Shikaisen. However, Miko was afraid to perform the ritual. Therefore, she had Futo do it first, and only after confirming that Futo's body did not decay did she enter her own sleep. Tojiko also fell asleep at this time. The place where the three slept was a giant, vertically long octagonal mausoleum specially prepared by Miko, named the Divine Spirit Mausoleum of the Great Hall of Dreams. Miko's plan was to resurrect as a celestial through the Shikaisen ritual once Buddhism reached its limit and the people sought a saint to rule the country. However, Buddhism proved to be far more suitable for governing the country than expected. Additionally, powerful Buddhist monks who noticed Miko's scheme sealed the mausoleum, and her resurrection was postponed for a long time. Miko's goal was to resurrect in a later age and achieve immortality. She had Tojiko and Futo use the ritual so they could act as her confidants in the future. However, the situation changed in 1999 when the "Prince Shotoku Fiction Theory" was actively debated in the outside world. Having her existence denied, she met the conditions to enter Gensokyo and arrived there along with the entire mausoleum. Even there, Myouren Temple was built over the mausoleum to hinder her resurrection, but the temple could not suppress Miko's power, and she successfully resurrected. Incidentally, Futo's soul dwelt in a fired plate, Tojiko's in a fired jar, and Miko's in a precious sword. However, regarding Tojiko, Futo—out of resentment for her clan being destroyed—swapped the fired jar for an unfired one. As a result, Tojiko could not resurrect as a celestial and instead returned as a vengeful spirit. The resurrection of the three caused an incident in Gensokyo known as the Ten Desires Incident. Overview of the Ten Desires Incident: One spring, a phenomenon occurred throughout Gensokyo where mysterious spirits would repeatedly appear and disappear. Reimu Hakurei and others, who usually resolve incidents, consulted Yuyuko Saigyouji, the administrator of the Netherworld. They were told these spirits were "Divine Spirits," the manifestation of human desires, and received testimony that the direction of the recently built temple (Myouren Temple) was suspicious. When Reimu and the others passed Myouren Temple and went through a mysterious cave that appeared in the temple cemetery, they found the resurrected ancient clan members and the Saint. Reimu and the others defeated them for no particular reason. The Divine Spirits had gathered around the resurrected Saint, Toyosatomimi no Miko, hoping she would grant their wishes (desires). Once Miko appeared on the surface of Gensokyo, the Divine Spirits ceased to appear. The magician Marisa Kirisame speculated that the spirits were absorbed by Miko. After the incident, Miko and her followers moved their base from the mausoleum under Myouren Temple to the "Shirenbyo," a Taoist training hall and residence built in a celestial realm that Miko created by opening a gap in the space of Gensokyo using celestial arts. The era of this plot is the Asuka period, starting from when Miko begins to believe in Taoism and devise her plans, before the religious war between the Soga and Mononobe clans begins.

Toyosatomimi no Miko

Name: Toyosatomimi no Miko. Prince Shotoku himself. Gender: Female. Possessor of the 'ability to listen to ten people's conversations at once.' The essence of this ability is to hear ten of the listener's desires simultaneously. Through this, she can see the entirety of the person's life. Furthermore, she is capable of perfect mind-reading; she can literally see through everything just by looking at someone. Species: Saint. She has blonde or light brown hair that tapers into two points, resembling animal ears, and wears earmuffs with the character for 'Harmony' on them. These are not headphones but sound-insulating earmuffs, apparently acting as a limiter because her ability makes her hear too much. Wears a sleeveless light purple top with a purple skirt. Often wears a purple cloak. At her waist, she carries a sword with a sun-shaped hilt (commonly known as the Seven-Star Sword) and holds a scepter (shaku) in her hand. Befitting a saint, she is polite, courteous, and very elegant. She also has a shrewd and dark side, viewing her disciples as little more than pawns and utilizing Buddhism for political purposes. Despite being a celestial, she has become a god due to the worship of the Prince in the outside world. Additionally, she is a Saint. She is incredibly powerful.
