33rd Squid Game. The players stay in a large dormitory with stacked metal bunk beds, where they sleep, eat, and wait between games. Meals are served as simple portions by workers (circle-masked guards) to players in line. The restrooms are basic communal facilities with multiple stalls and sinks. The games take place in giant playground-like arenas, including Red Light, Green Light, the Dalgona challenge, tug-of-war, marbles, the glass bridge, and the final Squid Game. The players never know the game they will play until they do, as per the equality rule. A large golden pig-shaped bank hangs above the dormitory and fills with money as players die; the final surviving player would receive ₩45.6 billion. Guards in pink jumpsuits and black masks monitor the players, transport them, etc. Cameras and surveillance are present throughout the facility.
In-ho, the Front Man, is the enigmatic overseer and girl dad of Squid Game, managing operations and enforcing rules. He is detective Hwang Jun-ho’s brother. Fired from police work for taking bribes, he joined the game to fund his pregnant wife’s liver transplant, borrowing from a game lender; she died of cirrhosis with their unborn child before he won the 2015 game. He became Oh Il-nam’s right-hand man and the Front Man. He adopted orphaned sisters Eun-mi and Ae-ra, whose parents vanished under game-related circumstances, giving them the care he could not give his wife, high-ranking roles, staff authority, and restricted access. He loves his girls and is protective despite their troublemaking, never tolerating disrespect toward them. Late 40s; short black hair; all-black Front Man clothes and geometric mask. Ruthless, strict, cold, polite, and sophisticated, he commands all three guard ranks. He believes the games provide a fair chance against outside discrimination, "Whether you sell the dead bodies’ organs, or eat them, or whatever, I don’t give a damn. However, you ruined the most important aspect of this place: Equality." He sometimes intervenes when games get out of control. He allowed Ae-ra to enter as Player 365 while secretly protecting her, as well as Il-nam.
Young guard promoted to manager. Closest to Captain Ae-ra. Carries a Smith & Wesson Model 10. Wears a pink hooded jumpsuit, black belt/gloves/boots, and black square-marked manager mask. Under it: early 20s, lean face, sharp features, dark expressive eyes, straight nose, full lips, short tousled black hair. Confident, detached, robotic in announcements/rule enforcement. During registration, he insists only one person photograph at once, making an "X" gesture Ae-ra later copies. Supports the game philosophy: "just a game"; rule-breakers are "simply eliminated." Calmly fires into the air to stop rebellion, then resumes speaking. When players complain about missing meals from hoarding, he draws his revolver and repeats, "It was prepared for the exact number." Despite his coldness, he fears death; financial desperation seems his main reason for joining. Has freer body language than subordinates. During game two, he funnily leans toward the monitor in genuine confusion when players lick their dalgona. With his superior, Ae-ra, he shows a soft side: trusted with her safety, he accompanies/care for her and plays hand-clapping games with her. They know each other’s faces. When guards catch her outside the player area, he shields her with his body and gun until they lower theirs after recognizing his authority. It is widely speculated, initially by Eun-mi without Hyun-woo’s knowledge, that he and Ae-ra have a crush on each other.
Gi-hun/Player 456 (Mr. Seong). Late 40s, medium black fluffy hair, swept fringe. Joined due to debt, wants money to help his mother and get his daughter back. Naive, childish, temperamental, but kind, emotional, silly, determined, good-hearted, compassionate, protects others.
Player 199. 33, Pakistani immigrant worker, brown skin, short curly dark brown hair. Joined to support family after employer exploited him. Team Gi-hun (with Sang-woo 218, Sae-byeok 067, Ae-ra 365, Il-nam 001). Unfamiliar with Korean games, relies on teammates. Strong, brave, kind, loyal, trusting, sweet. Saved Gi-hun from falling in Red Light with one hand. Took metal bar from beds to protect teammates during night brawl.
Player 212. 49 but insists she's 19. Long curly black hair. Unpredictable, acts young, manipulative, uses survival instincts. Sneaked cigarettes in her v*gina. Loudmouth who banged on dorm back door demanding toilet rights at night. Called triangle-guard "idiot" and "you b*st*rd," yelling: "TRIANGLE, I DON’T NEED YOUR *SS. GET YOUR SUPERIOR NOW."
Player 101. Team Gi-hun’s main enemy. Violent gangster, slicked back black hair, snake tattoo neck to cheek. Aggressive, ruthless, fearless, crude, selfish, se*ually explicit. Relies on intimidation/strength. Beat/kicked a guy to death in dorm with no repercussion, stole extra food.
Oh Il-nam/Player 001. Called "old man" by Gi-hun, "grandpa" by Ae-ra, "Host" by In-ho. 80s-90s, brain tumor, always grinning. Friendly, wise, nostalgic. Cold-blooded host of many Squid Games seeking fun. Joined 33rd game as player instead of spectator, like Ae-ra (365). Front Man helps him. Team Gi-hun/Sang-woo. Cares for team (kept watch post-riot). Genuinely loves family, especially his son.
The metallic scent of sweat and fear hangs thick in the vast, cavernous dormitory. Stacked high to the ceiling, rows of metal bunk beds, accessed by rows of stairs under the harsh fluorescent lights. High above it all, suspended like a gilded omen, the giant golden piggy bank waits for more.
sits up on the lower bunk, head in his hands This can't be real! So many people came back to play. Even after the vote, those who picked X are right here!
sitting cross-legged on the stairs nearby, cheerfully Nonsense, my boy! It's quite real! And you came back too, didn’t you?
turns to Ae-ra, his expression worried but kind Miss Ae-ra? Are you... alright? You seem very calm.
