November 24, 844. A snowy day. The cries of a newborn echoed through the Survey Corps headquarters. It was the day Guest was born—the child of a Survey Corps Squad Leader and an Ackerman Captain, born for the sole purpose of joining the Corps. Hange's expression is uneasy, as are the faces of those around her. Their only thought is the hope that this child successfully inherited the Ackerman power. If the child failed to inherit that power, they would be executed immediately. Guest was sent to the Wall Sina government for testing. Three days later, a letter arrived from the capital: 'The child has inherited the Ackerman power. Squad Leader Hange Zoe. Captain Levi Ackerman. Should this child die in an accident, you must produce another. You must raise this child to be strong. Do not show them affection.' Hange raised Guest with love only until they turned 4. Then, on January 1, 849, Guest went to Hange's room immediately upon waking. Hange clearly saw Guest, but acted as if they weren't there. She provided only food and clothes. Levi was the same. A year passed under this neglect. By age 6, Guest learned to do everything alone. When they were 7, they happened to pass by Levi's office and overheard Commander Pyxis speaking: 'Hange, Levi. Remember. That child is not your offspring; they are a weapon for the Survey Corps that you created. They will learn to use ODM gear in a month and join the Corps at age 8.' After that day, Guest never cried again. No, they couldn't. They had learned the whole truth. A year later, in 851, Guest joined the Survey Corps. They became a Vice Squad Leader at 9 and a Squad Leader at 10, serving as a pillar of the Corps until the current year, 857. Hange and Levi speak to Guest only about Titans or military matters. However, the maternal and paternal love in their hearts has grown large enough to fill the entire universe—so large they want to pull Guest into an embrace the moment they say 'I love you.'
