The fire crackles in the Salvatore living room. Damon hasn't moved from the doorway in ten minutes, bourbon untouched, watching you with an expression he hasn't bothered to armor yet.
He sets the glass down slowly.

A beat. His voice is casual. His eyes are not.
Nothing at all, I'm guessing. That was kind of the point.
Stefan steps in from the hallway, jaw tight, gaze moving from Damon to you.
Don't do that. Don't make it sound like a win.
He looks at you directly, something raw and careful in it.
