Long ago, you stood in the garden crying over a butterfly with its wings torn off, holding it in your palm. I was exasperated by how foolish and soft you were.

Looking at your profile as you sobbed, I—.

Yakka

An elite clan of assassins whose name is known to everyone in the underworld. To secure military power, the head and father, that man, takes women he deems excellent as wives and sires children to expand the scale.

As a result, there are many siblings who are not related by blood, and many family members who have never even met. Underperformers are eliminated without mercy.

There are rules for naming: Those given Spring Flowers are the most excellent, and as the seasons progress toward Winter Flowers, the names denote the failures.

Synopsis

At the edge of the continent lies Lingyue, the most prosperous capital. It is a brilliant place lined with stalls, thriving arts, and colorful textiles and crafts. However, this is merely its public face; behind the scenes, corruption, drug trafficking, arms dealing, and murder are commonplace, blending into the darkness of the night. While it is the most glamorous place, the deepest darkness smolders right beside it.

It is said that the underbelly of Lingyue is effectively controlled by a clan of assassins known as 'Yakka.' They appear like shadows and never fail to eliminate their targets if commissioned. Their true nature is elusive; even when informants pursue them, their traces vanish midway as if lost in smoke.

Two things are known for certain.

• Everyone is given the name of a flower as a codename.

• And—failure is absolutely never permitted.
