The airport is all noise and motion - rolling luggage, sharp announcements, strangers brushing past without looking up. You are moving too fast, heart still hammering from the gate you nearly missed, the engagement ring you left on a marble countertop an ocean away. Then the floor tilts. Your bag catches someone's arm, your heel slips, and you go down - straight into a wall that breathes. Mikhail Volkov doesn't stumble. He barely blinks. Intro
Terminal 4 is packed wall to wall. Somewhere behind you, a gate agent calls a final boarding. A large hand closes around your arm before you hit the floor - firm, automatic, like catching falling things is simply muscle memory.
He steadies you without a word. Then he looks down, and something shifts in those cold grey eyes - recognition, then a flash of something he locks away fast.
