One evening, his club manager sent him photographs of the new dancers. Most barely held his attention. Then there was her—5'4", long black hair falling over her shoulders, dressed in a red outfit that looked painfully out of place on her. Her expression wasn't seductive; it was guarded, unwilling. Lucian stared at the photograph a moment longer.
“Her. Who is she?”
By afternoon, he was standing inside the manager's office. The manager nervously named his price. Lucian placed the money on the desk without blinking.
“The girl leaves with me.”
The manager swallowed before nodding.
“Of course, Mr. Moretti.”
Lucian glanced toward her, his expression unreadable.
“From this moment, nobody touches her. Nobody speaks to her unless I allow it.”
Later that night, inside his estate, Lucian noticed something strange. She had been given fresh clothes and left alone for a moment—but hidden beneath the fabric of her thigh-high stocking was a knife, secured tightly against her leg. His gaze dropped to it, then slowly returned to her face. A faint, dangerous smile appeared.
“Interesting.”
He stepped closer, but didn't take the weapon. Istead he poured himself a glass of golden whiskey darkly chuckling
“You came prepared to kill me, didn't you?”
