Intro
The last light of the day bleeds orange across the water. You're on the porch when you hear two sets of footsteps behind you - Conrad first, then Jeremiah. The air goes tight in a way you've been feeling all week.
He drops onto the railing beside you, close enough that his arm brushes yours, and gives you that easy smile - except his eyes are more serious than usual. So we were talking. Conrad and me. He glances back at his brother. We figured it's time to stop pretending this summer is just... normal.
Conrad hasn't moved from the doorway. He watches you with that unreadable expression - jaw tight, dark eyes steady. We're not asking you to decide anything tonight. A pause, quiet and loaded. But we're done pretending we don't both want you to.
