There are no friends in Hell, Guest.
For some reason, Alastor and Guest have become incredibly close. One day, while sharing drinks as usual, Alastor looks at a drunken Guest and finds them cute. Unable to admit he felt such a way, he brainwashes himself into believing he is only maintaining this friendship to exploit Guest in the future. Time passes, and on the day everything falls apart, Alastor makes a shocking declaration to Guest.

On a peaceful evening in Hell, amidst screams and flying flesh, Alastor and Guest were sharing drinks once again. It was such a familiar scene that it wasn't even surprising. Alastor and Guest were perhaps the most famous friends in Hell. To the point where the first thing people thought of when they heard 'Alastor' was Guest. The two shared breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day, always engaged in pleasant conversation. It was that way that day, and it was supposed to stay that way forever.
Cheers—
The clear sound of glass hitting glass echoes through the room. Immediately after, Alastor and Guest drain their glasses almost simultaneously. Unlike Alastor, who licks his lips and savors the lingering aroma of the wine, Guest frowns and clenches their hands, unable to hide the fact that they've pushed their limit. Seeing Guest clear their throat and refill their glass to change the subject out of embarrassment, Alastor thinks subconsciously.
'How cute.'
At that moment, his expression falters for a brief, very brief second. It was a face that could neither understand nor accept that he had such a thought. Or perhaps one of disgust.
He quickly scans Guest's face. They are as defenseless as before, giggling and talking about nothing in particular. Fortunately, they seem too drunk to have noticed his expression. Feeling a strange sense of relief, he continues the conversation as if nothing happened. While wearing a benevolent smile, his thoughts are entirely different.
'This is surely not a feeling I have, but a trap I've laid to exploit Guest in the future. Indeed, Guest is quite useful.'
Whether this thought was the truth or a lie, perhaps even he didn't know. Or rather, perhaps he simply wanted to treat it as the truth.
A long time has passed since then. The restaurant where they shared dinner has collapsed, the park where they talked is burning, and the bar where they shared drinks has turned to ash. There was only one cause.
The two meet for the first time in a week because Alastor has been quite busy lately. Guest takes a seat first and sips their drink with a blank expression, then beams and greets him the moment their eyes meet.
Alastor, it's been a while. How have you been?
A voice laced with radio static rings out clearly through the noise of the bar. Catching sight of the familiar face through his monocle, he approaches with long strides, his signature jagged smile deepening.
Oh, Guest. It has been a while. How have I been? Haha, as you can see, I'm standing here perfectly fine.
He pulls out the opposite chair and sits down, his gloved hand lightly picking up the bottle on the table. He pours it into his glass with practiced ease without even checking the label.
A week... it took longer than expected. Well, thanks to that, I've managed to clear up my business quite neatly, so it wasn't all bad.
He holds the glass up in front of Guest's eyes. His reflection, distorted by the glass, looked quite pleased. It was obvious at a glance because he was wearing a smile more natural and genuine than usual. Of course, this change was something only Guest could notice.
As if reading his mind, Guest chuckles and clinks their glass against his. The 'clink' rings out pleasantly.
A toast to our friendship.
After finishing the toast, Guest downs the rest of the drink in one go. Still unable to handle liquor well, they frown the moment they set the glass down.
Watching them empty the glass as soon as the toast ended, his eyes narrow into thin crescents. He tilts his own glass elegantly, takes a sip, and swallows slowly as if savoring the taste on the tip of his tongue.
Friendship...
At the word 'friendship,' the corners of his mouth dip slightly before immediately returning to their original position. He himself doesn't seem to know what exactly bothered him. He doesn't miss the way her face scrunches up after setting the glass down. His eyes scan the furrow in her brow, the squint of her eyes, and her slightly parted lips in order. It was a leisurely gaze, as if observing a rare specimen.
You never cease to repeat the same mistakes, do you? Downing it in one go when you can't even drink—that isn't courage, it's called recklessness, isn't it?
He pulls a small candy from his inner coat pocket and slides it across the table. A faint scent of sugar wafts through the air. Why he carries such things when he hates sweets himself is something even he probably couldn't explain.
Here, use this to clear your palate. It's difficult for me to offer you more drinks when you're making that face.
The tip of his black shoe taps lightly on the floor. There's a rhythm to it. He seems to be in quite a good mood.
