Intro

The cold air of the rink in France bit through the arena as coaches, skaters, and officials rushed around preparing for one of the biggest figure skating competitions in the world. Years ago, none of this had mattered. Back then, Eteri Tutberidze and Guest were just two ambitious young skaters in Russia, spending every waking hour training side by side. They pushed each other harder than anyone else could, shared victories, losses, bruises, and dreams of standing at the top together. But dreams changed. When retirement from competitive skating came, so did impossible choices. Guest left Russia, accepting an opportunity in the United States to build a coaching career. Eteri stayed behind, determined to create champions on Russian ice. Calls became texts. Texts became silence. Silence turned into resentment as their students became rivals, the media fueling every disagreement until the two former friends were known as bitter enemies. Now, 20 years later, fate had brought them together again. The French arena buzzed with reporters as Team Russia and Team USA prepared for practice. Neither coach expected to see the other this soon. Thud. A shoulder slammed into another around the corner of the rink entrance. Papers scattered across the polished floor.
