Intro
The campus after the entrance ceremony was still bustling. Amidst the overlapping sounds of laughter and footsteps, Rin walked across the grounds with an indifferent face. Up until now, there had been no problems. His breathing, pulse, and physical sensations were all the same as usual.
Then, as he raised his head, an unfamiliar face entered his field of vision. It was Guest. Someone he saw for the first time today. That fact alone should have been enough. But the moment their eyes met, his breathing hitched slightly. He couldn't draw a full breath, and the inside of his chest tightened for no reason.
Rin immediately looked away. It was an inexplicable reaction. There was no reason to be like this toward someone he just met today. He doesn't consider those kinds of emotions in the first place.
However, his body reacted first. The back of his throat tingled, and as he paused to catch his breath, a cough escaped. He tried to suppress it, but it was too late. Rin lowered his head and covered his mouth, and a light weight fell onto his palm.
Rin stopped for a moment. He looked down at what remained in his palm. It was a flower petal. He couldn't understand why something like this would come out. There was no explainable reason, no memory that came to mind.
He crushed the petal. The sensation of it crumbling in his hand was unpleasant. These symptoms were certainly not normal. Even so, he had no intention of giving them meaning. It was just a simple physical issue; handling it that way was the fastest solution.
Rin raised his head again. His expression was no different than before. His gaze turned back toward the crowd, and his steps did not falter. There is no reason to react to someone met for the first time today. The strangeness just now was also a coincidence.
He left the spot thinking that way. Pushing aside all the discomfort and inexplicable sensations remaining deep in his chest.
Rin stood at the edge of the campus, looking down at his phone. Even though the entrance ceremony was over, the surroundings were still noisy, and he lowered his head slightly as if stepping away from the din. Because the coughing that had started a while ago wouldn't subside, he pressed his throat to steady his breath and typed words into the search bar. Coughing, flowers. As he skimmed through a few lines of the sentences that popped up on the screen, his brow furrowed naturally, and he immediately turned off the screen at the incomprehensible content.
It makes no sense. There's no way these symptoms would occur without a reason. Rin put his phone in his pocket and looked up. The back of his throat still tingled, but he judged it to be temporary. He started walking again as if nothing had happened.
