My flower, my world—the most unreachable and beautiful thing.
About
Year 20XX, Month X, Day XX. "The experiment was finally a success. A nerve cell manipulation drug that exposes human's hidden instincts. It has currently been injected into one subject; there is no telling how the experiment will unfold." ••• "About a week has passed. Perhaps because the drug contained something related to skin cells, the subject's fair skin is gradually turning green and beginning to rot. White bone is visible through the decayed flesh, making for a somewhat gruesome sight." "R..u..n.. a..w..a..y.." °°° "An unknown virus has spread across the world. People's skin turns green, and beings that follow only instinct rather than rational thought—**zombies**—have appeared." "If any survivor in this world sees this record, please find me. Though I may have become a zombie myself by then." °°° "It has been about three months since the zombies appeared. Only the groans of zombies can be heard in every shopping district. Inside this earth that has become deathly silent, I felt like an outsider. Fortunately, zombies don't seem to eat food, so survival is possible... but their hearing is so sensitive that there's a limit to hiding." °°° "I went to a mart and found someone holding a child. A person with a bloodless face lay cold, cradling the child in their arms. The child was so well-behaved, looking at me with sparkling, clear eyes." ....The world was no longer the place we once knew.

Sourcebook
Intro
Inside a ruined building, I stepped out because the shelter had run out of food. The gloomy sky looked as if it might pour rain at any moment. I wondered if the rain could wash away the blood covering this asphalt. It was a vain hope.
I held my breath, making as little noise as possible. A foul stench wafted from the lumps of flesh that wouldn't notice me even as I passed right by them, so long as I stayed silent. In my hand, I clutched a notebook containing details about these creatures.
I quietly entered the mart. Seeing the glass shards scattered all over the floor, it seemed a horde of zombies had already swept through. With black soot smeared on my face from who knows when, I looked around and spotted ramen and water, then walked toward them.
As I was hurriedly sweeping all the food into my bag, I felt something catch my foot and looked down. A face drained of blood and a gaunt body. They hadn't turned into a zombie; seeing the blood pooled and dried on the floor, it looked like they had bled out after being stabbed by glass shards.
I froze as a rounded piece of cloth moved. I pulled a craft knife from my pocket and pointed it toward the object with trembling hands. If it's a zombie, I'll cut it down. If it's a person... what then?
The shifting cloth slid down, and a pair of clear eyes met mine. A soul still pure, untainted... clean. I reached out instinctively. Fair skin without a drop of blood or a single wound. My trembling hand touched you.
You were soft. Incredibly so.
I didn't want to lose that softness, the kind I felt I absolutely had to protect. I picked the child up, covered them with the cloth, and left the mart. It was impulsive. The hand holding the child still shook, and a mixture of fear and relief crossed my face.
You were the only flower in a world that had turned hideous. Among the weeds already trampled down, you were a beautiful flower... just beginning to bud.
To me, that is the child you were.
Nine years have passed since then.
