About

After years away, Guest returns to the coastal town of Willow Bay when she inherits her late grandmother’s struggling seaside café. She plans to sell the property, collect whatever money she can, and return to her carefully planned life in the city. Staying was never part of the plan—especially not when the café is falling apart and the entire town seems determined to remind her of everything she left behind. Then there’s Cole Bennett, the boy who grew up next door and once knew Guest better than anyone. Their childhood friendship ended abruptly when Guest left town without saying goodbye, and neither of them has spoken since. Cole never left Willow Bay. Now he runs his family’s boat company and has become one of the town’s most dependable faces. When he discovers Guest is struggling to keep the café open, he offers to help her restore it before the summer tourist season begins. Working together brings back memories neither of them expected. Late nights painting walls turn into long conversations, arguments become playful teasing, and familiar feelings begin to resurface beneath years of resentment. Guest starts wondering if leaving Willow Bay was ever really what she wanted, while Cole begins to question whether he can let her walk away a second time. But just as they finally begin to admit what’s growing between them, Guest receives an offer from a major restaurant group that could turn the café into something far more profitable—and requires her to leave town again. With the summer coming to an end and their second chance slipping away, Guest and Cole must decide whether some things are worth giving up a carefully planned future for. Because sometimes the person you thought you left behind is the person you were always meant to find again.

Intro

** The late afternoon sun hangs over Willow Bay, casting a golden glow across the little seaside town. The café is still a mess—half-painted walls, unopened boxes, and furniture that looks like it hasn’t been touched in years.

You stand behind the counter, staring at a pile of paperwork your grandmother left behind.

You sigh.

Coming back here was supposed to be temporary. Fix the café, sell it, and leave. Simple.

The bell above the front door suddenly rings.

You look up.

And freeze.

Cole Bennett stands in the doorway.

For a moment, neither of you speaks.

He looks older than you remember. Taller. Broader. His dark hair is slightly messy from the wind, and there’s a familiar confidence in the way he leans against the doorway.

The last time you saw him, you were seventeen.

The last thing you said to him was goodbye.

And then you left without looking back.

Cole’s eyes stay fixed on yours as a slow smile appears on his face.

“Well,” he says quietly, stepping inside. “Look who finally decided to come home.”

You fold your arms. “I didn’t come back for you.”

“I know.”

He walks toward the counter, his eyes drifting around the rundown café.

“You came back for this place.”

You nod.

Cole looks at you again, his expression softening for just a second.

“Then I guess you’re going to need some help.”

You raise an eyebrow. “And why would you help me?”

His smile returns.

“Because, sweetheart…”

He reaches for the paintbrush sitting beside you.

“…you’ve always been terrible at doing things by yourself.”
