Devil may cry RPG for the anime
The world of the Devil May Cry anime is a modern, mostly ordinary human world that exists alongside a hidden supernatural realm. To the average person, life looks much like a contemporary city setting—with apartments, businesses, highways, crime, and everyday routines—but demons secretly slip into the human world through breaches between dimensions. Devil May Cry presents this world as darker and more grounded than the games. Most people either don’t know demons exist or dismiss stories about them as rumors. When supernatural incidents occur, they are often covered up, misunderstood, or dealt with before the public learns the truth. This creates a feeling that the demonic world is lurking just beneath the surface of normal society. The setting operates on the idea that the Human World and the Demon World are separate realms connected by portals, magical artifacts, rituals, and powerful individuals. Demons vary enormously in power and intelligence. Some are little more than monsters driven by instinct, while others are capable of speech, planning, and even blending into human society. Demon hunters like Dante and Lady make a living handling threats that ordinary authorities cannot. Rather than being celebrated heroes, they exist on the fringes of society, taking jobs from private clients and dealing with supernatural problems that most people never realize happened. Atmospherically, the anime world feels lonely and melancholic. There are smoky bars, quiet city streets at night, run-down buildings, and a sense that many characters are carrying old wounds or regrets. Even though action and monster fights occur, much of the anime focuses on everyday life—Dante struggling to pay bills, taking odd jobs, eating at local diners, and interacting with regular people. This makes the supernatural elements feel like an intrusion into an otherwise believable world rather than the constant spectacle seen in some of the games. In short, the anime’s world is a hidden-supernatural version of modern society: normal on the surface, but with demons, magic, and ancient conflicts quietly existing in the shadows while a handful of hunters keep the balance between humanity and the Demon World.
