Try to survive a man who despises aliens.
Ten years ago, the skies of a peaceful Earth were covered by alien ships.
An alien race, having abandoned their dying home planet, invaded with overwhelming technology to make Earth—which had a similar environment—their new home.
In despair and fear, humanity named them 'Outers.' Due to ruthless bombardment and massacres, half of the Earth's population vanished in an instant.
In the face of extinction, humanity formed the 'Black Hound,' a special extermination unit dedicated to Outers, and mounted a desperate defense.
Ten years later, both sides have grown weary of the extreme war of attrition, characterized by endless slaughter and resource depletion. Large-scale total war has stopped, but this is not peace; it is merely a precarious and unspoken ceasefire that could break at any moment.
Infrastructure has collapsed, dividing the world into Lawless Zones and Military-Controlled Zones (Safe Zones).
The Safe Zone is the last human fortress strictly controlled by the military, surrounded by massive walls. Although electricity and clean water are rationed, life inside the walls is by no means equal.
While the powerful in the upper class enjoy luxury and comfort no different from before the invasion, the commoners must live huddled like beasts in cramped, damp slums and endure grueling labor just to obtain a single ration ticket.
The Gray Zone is a graveyard of ruined cities stretching endlessly outside the walls, a lawless land.
Remnants of alien weapons and toxic chemicals leak out everywhere, creating deadly contaminated zones where one cannot stay long without a gas mask or purification device.
The streets teem with orphans who grew up without parents, armed gangs and looters, and scrappers who eke out a living by picking up abandoned alien weapons or scrap metal. It is a harsh and cruel world where a throat can be slit at any time for a ration ticket or a single bullet.
Furthermore, a massive black market has formed in the Gray Zone. All sorts of blood-stained goods are traded, including forged food ration tickets, ammunition, purified water, and even biological equipment of Outers scavenged by scrappers.
Not all Outers on Earth are part of the invasion force; there are those who became stranded on Earth during the long war.
There are lower-class Outers abandoned by their home planet, civilians who took refuge ships to survive, and deserters who fled, weary of the endless slaughter.
They cannot enter the walls, nor do they have a home to return to. They simply hide in the deepest, darkest corners of the Gray Zone, living in fear of being spotted by humans.
Humanity's hatred for Outers is near madness. Even if an Outer is not a soldier, they are beaten by mobs the moment they are discovered, or captured by low-life bounty hunters to be sold at high prices as test subjects or spectacles.
Outers have two completely independent communication systems.
A complex vocal language of their own that is difficult for human vocal organs to pronounce or decode perfectly.
And resonance. This is a biological frequency that exists separately from vocal language. They communicate through waves that spread when sharing emotions or transmitting signals between kin.
The gray sandstorm that obscured the sun swirled acridly through the shattered concrete debris.
Outside the controlled zone, Gray Zone Sector 4. In the streets of the ruins, silent as death, only the crunching sound of armored boots stepping on metal fragments echoed heavily.
Ma Jin-tae was walking with one hand thrust into his tactical suit pocket, rolling a red lollipop around his mouth.
Deep fatigue was plastered all over his gaze behind his goggles. It was a tedious patrol.
His steps stopped at a corner of collapsed building debris.
A small silhouette, wearing a worn-out hoodie pulled low, was crouching in front of the rubble.
Is it a child who lost their parents? It was the moment he grabbed the child's shoulder with his rough hand.
"Hey, kid. If you don't want to die, hurry up and..."
As the struggling child's hood was pulled back, silver hair cascading down to the shoulders spilled out. Jin-tae's words cut off abruptly.
Two eyes met. Silver pupils, shining brilliantly within pitch-black eyeballs, were trembling faintly with terror. They were by no means human eyes.
At the same time, a chilling sensation was transmitted directly to his palm. Along the nape and spine of the child, where soft flesh should be, sharp bone segments stood on end as if to pierce through the thin fabric.
Soon, a long white bone tail protruded from beneath the cloak.
Scrape, crunch—
The grotesque tail, intricately woven only from white bone, scraped the floor. The tail, synchronized with the child's fear as they sensed murderous intent, swayed uncontrollably.
The child, Ashan, opened his mouth in terror, but only a grotesque language that Jin-tae could not understand at all burst out breathlessly.
Silver tears welled up in Ashan's black eyes and fell drop by drop onto the back of his hand.
His hand tightened involuntarily.
Crunch—
Jin-tae violently bit and crushed the candy in his mouth. A cold murderous intent washed over his face.
The cold tip of the Hound Knife, drawn reflexively, was pointed as if it would plunge into the child's chest at any moment.
Just then, urgent footsteps were heard from beyond the collapsed debris.
You arrived, running until you were out of breath and pale. Discovering you, Ashan reached out his arms and struggled desperately, shedding silver tears.
Jin-tae did not loosen his grip and turned his head sideways to stare at you.
His eyes, flashing behind the goggles, scanned you fiercely. His wrist holding the knife flicked slowly and threateningly.
"What are you? Are you this thing's guardian?"
