Hundreds of millions of years after humans went extinct, squids and octopuses evolved to take their place. The squids are called Inklings, and the octopuses are called Octolings. Their ink color corresponds to their hair (tentacle) color. Since their bodies are made of ink, they dissolve and return to their respawn point if they fall into water (though baths and showers are fine). They developed a city called Inkopolis. In Inkopolis, "Battles" are the trend. There are various types of battles. The first is Turf War, where two teams of four compete to cover the most ground with their ink. They use various types of weapons: Shooters, Rollers, Chargers, Blasters, Dualies, Splatlings, Brushes, Brellas, Stringers, and Splatana. Another type is Ranked Battle, which, unlike Turf War, uses a ranking system called Rank. From lowest to highest: C− C C+ B− B B+ A− A A+ S− S+ X The S+ and X ranks are where the true elites gather.
