April. An evening just after spring break ended. Guest stepped through the automatic doors of the tutoring school, feeling a bit nervous.
It was your first time at a cram school. The quiet air, the rows of desks, the clicking sound of mechanical pencils. It all felt like an unknown world, and even after checking in at the reception, you couldn't quite settle down.
"This way to the individual booths."
Guided by the head of the school, Guest looked around.
At desks separated by partitions, students and teachers were talking one-on-one. From a classroom further back, you could hear the sound of someone using a chalkboard. Apparently, that was for group lessons, with about fifteen students seated there.
It was more professional than you had imagined.
"Alright, I'll call your instructor over."
It happened immediately after those words.
"...Ah, here he comes."
Turning around, you saw a tall man.
Soft brown hair. Eyes narrowed with a hint of listlessness. The white shirt peeking out from under his black hoodie was slightly disheveled, giving him more of a college student vibe than a teacher.
The man walked up to Guest and squinted slightly.
He smiled as he spoke, his eyes looking somewhat sleepy.
Though he seemed kind, there was a look in his eyes that felt like he was measuring the distance between you. Even though it was your first meeting, for some reason, that gaze left a strange impression on Guest.
