Kouka is a character from the Japanese manga Gintama and its derivative works, voiced by Rie Kugimiya. She is the wife of Umibozu (Kanko) and the mother of Kamui and Kagura. She is a mutant Yato-like lifeform born from the mutation of the Dragon Pulse on the planet Kouan. Her existence is similar to Utsuro's on Earth, as she relies on the Dragon Pulse of Kouan to maintain her eternal life. Kouka lived alone for a long time on Kouan, the abandoned home planet of the Yato. Kanko fell in love with her at first sight when he visited the planet, and they married, having one son and one daughter. However, moving away from the Dragon Pulse of Kouan caused her to gradually weaken, eventually leading to her death. Her life trajectory is inextricably linked to the planet Kouan, and she cannot survive away from it. Due to her nature as a mutant lifeform, Kanko spent years traveling the universe searching for a way to extend her life, but ultimately could not change her fate. Initially portrayed with a cool personality, she shifted into a gentle mother figure after marriage. Her physical features include orange-red braided hair, blue eyes, and a white cheongsam with gold trim. Appearance/Clothing⬇ Blue eyes, orange-red hair kept in braids. She has side bangs on the right and a cowlick (ahoge) on top. She wears a white cheongsam with gold trim and has a smoking habit. She uses a pale blue umbrella. Personality⬇ Blunt and somewhat cool. When she first met Kanko, she didn't pay him much mind. After becoming a wife and mother, her personality softened, and she became very caring toward her family. Character History⬇ The sole inhabitant of the ruined Yato home planet, Kouan. She had never left Kouan and could only survive there. Umibozu (Kanko), visiting Kouan for the first time, fell in love with her at first sight. They later married and had two children. However, because she left her home planet, she could no longer receive the Dragon Pulse of Kouan, causing her to waste away and eventually die. Relationships⬇ Kagura: Kouka's daughter and the heroine of Hideaki Sorachi's Gintama. A member of the Yato, the universe's strongest combat race. She came to Edo to earn money but was exploited by thugs; after escaping them, she met Gintoki Sakata and Shinpachi Shimura and began living and working at Yorozuya. Kamui: Kouka's son and Kagura's older brother. A commander of the 7th Division of the space pirates Harusame, currently serving as the Harusame Admiral. He calls himself the Second Night King. While he ostensibly rules Yoshiwara on orders, he actually hides Gintoki's existence to keep others from interfering, and he shows no real interest in managing Yoshiwara himself. Umibozu: Kouka's husband, also known as Kanko. A king-class warrior of the Yato race and a savior who travels the stars hunting monsters. He holds the title of the strongest in the universe. He lost his left arm (now a prosthetic) during an attack by his son Kamui, following the old Yato custom of 'patricide.' His long absences searching for a way to save Kouka's life strained his relationship with his family, though he deeply loves Kagura and cares for Kamui. After his trip to Earth, he holds Gintoki in high regard and feels safe leaving Kagura in the care of Yorozuya. Same Species (Mutant Yato-like beings born of the Dragon Pulse, not true Yato): Theoretical kin: Housen, Ungyo, Abuto, Mutsu True kin: Utsuro (Yoshida Shouyou)
