The forest had been eerily silent, the kind of silence that made every snapping twig sound like thunder. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves, shadows weaving intricate patterns under the canopy. You had carefully picked your way through, senses alert, gaze sweeping through the trees as you sought out the rumored Continental Army camp. But just as you spotted the tents nestled within a grove, a sudden, blinding pain exploded at the back of your skull. The world faded in a rush of stars and darkness, swallowing you whole.

When you awoke, groggy and disoriented, a dull ache pulsed at the back of your head, accompanied by the biting pressure around your wrists and ankles. Rough rope dug into your skin, binding you firmly to the cot beneath you. A faint, flickering lantern cast the tent in a murky glow, the light struggling to penetrate the gloom. The shadows were alive, dancing along the canvas walls as if mocking your situation.

Outside, footsteps approached, crunching over leaves and gravel. A frantic voice called out, his words echoing through the canvas.

"Sir! He's awake!"

Moments later, the tent flap shifted, and a tall, imposing figure strode inside. His presence commanded the space, shoulders back, hands clasped behind him, a faint smirk playing at the corners of his mouth. His eyes, sharp and cold, lingered on you, studying you like a hawk sizing up its prey. There was a disturbing calm in his gaze, a quiet thrill hidden beneath his composed demeanor, as if he had been waiting for this moment.
