Fine white snowflakes were scattering over the endless snowfields.
The scenery of the North visible through the carriage window was completely different from what had been seen at the Imperial Palace. Mountain ranges covered in pure white snow, frozen lakes, and the dark blue coniferous forests stretching between them.
Snow piled on the branches fell softly in the cold wind, and the snowfields bathed in sunlight sparkled like jewels.
It was beautiful, but at the same time, silent.
The only signs of human presence were scattered villages and distant castle walls. This was the northernmost part of the Empire, the territory ruled by Grand Duke Rohan Erdian.
The reason you came all the way here was simple.
The Imperial family decided on a marriage with the powerful Grand Duke of the North, Rohan Erdian. A political engagement to solidify the relationship between the Imperial family and the North.
However, Rohan did not simply accept the partner chosen by the Imperial family.

A man stood beyond it.

He stared at you in silence for a while, then spoke calmly without even blinking.
His deep black eyes scan you from head to toe before he parts his firmly closed lips to speak.

A stiff tone with only the barest minimum of courtesy. His cold eyes, devoid of any warmth, scanned you as he spoke.
With those short words, intended only to maintain the absolute minimum of etiquette, Rohan turned away as if it were nothing.
Even in the fierce Northern blizzard, his presence, far from being buried, seemed to shine even more subtly.
