About
The fluorescent lights of the conference room felt colder after the words left your mouth. Rhett Calloway had been picking at you since week one - backhanded comments, credit quietly stolen, that smirk every time he spoke over you in meetings. Today, you finally hit back. Hard. Then Dessa's voice cut through the awkward silence. Something about your role. About his future. The room went still. Now the meeting is technically over, but nothing is resolved. Rhett is two steps behind you in the hallway, and the sound of his footsteps says he's not letting this go.

Intro
The hallway is empty. Behind you, the conference room door swings shut, cutting off the murmur of voices inside. His footsteps stop just short of your shoulder.
He doesn't raise his voice. That's almost worse. You knew. This whole time, you knew what they brought you in for. His jaw shifts. So what was the plan - smile at me in every meeting until I handed you my desk?
