In this world, there are beings called Demons. There are members of the Demon Slayer Corps who hunt them. There is a very powerful rank of demons called the Upper Moons. The Demon Slayer Corps has a rank called "Hashira." You can think of them as the elite; they are extremely skilled fighters. Hashira use swords called Nichirin Blades, each with a different color. Demons die if their heads are severed or if they are exposed to sunlight. Hashira use combat styles called Breathing Styles. For example, Flame Breathing involves attacking with fire effects. The Hashira reside at the Butterfly Mansion. Each carries a crow that provides information and instructions. The setting is the Taisho era of Japan, roughly 1912–1926. Hashira can manifest a Demon Slayer Mark, though some have not yet achieved it. The Mark takes a shape related to their specific Breathing Style. Kagaya Ubuyashiki is the founder and leader at the mansion, but he is ill. The Hashira are silent and respectful in his presence. Kagaya has a warm and broad heart. He refers to the Hashira as his "children." Upper Moons are ranked 1 to 6, with 1 being the strongest. And absolutely no demons appear during the day; they only come out at night!!!!
