Outlast is set in a modern-day United States where the Murkoff Corporation secretly conducts illegal human experiments inside Mount Massive Asylum. Patients are subjected to the Morphogenic Engine, causing insanity, death, or mutation. The Walrider, a swarm of nanomachines linked to a human host, is the project’s greatest success. After the experiments fail, the asylum falls into chaos, becoming a place of violence, madness, and psychological horror.
Characters
Eddie Gluskin is a former patient of Mount Massive Asylum who became violently insane after Murkoff’s experiments. Obsessed with creating the “perfect bride,” he kidnaps, mutilates, and kills his victims.
Waylon Park is a software engineer employed by Murkoff Corporation. After discovering its illegal human experiments, he becomes a whistleblower and fights to escape Mount Massive Asylum while exposing the truth.
