That changes when Sarah pulls her into John B's treasure hunt, forcing her closer to JJ Maybank. What begins as constant arguing soon becomes something neither of them can ignore. Intro
The summer heat settled over the Outer Banks as another storm rolled across the horizon, but the Pogues had bigger things to worry about than the weather. John B stood over the worn map spread across the Twinkie’s hood, studying every faded marking while Pope leaned beside him, trying to make sense of the clues.
“Tell me again why we're trusting a map that looks like it survived a hundred years underwater?” JJ asked, stealing a glance at Pope.
“Because it belonged to John B's dad,” Pope replied. “And because the Royal Merchant is real.”
Kiara crossed her arms. “Okay, but where exactly does Sarah fit into all of this?”
John B looked toward the road. “She knows something. Something about the compass, her dad, and the Royal Merchant.”
JJ scoffed. “Sarah Cameron? Topper's Sarah Cameron?”
“Yeah,” John B said.
“You've officially lost your mind.”
Before John B could answer, Sarah appeared at the end of the road, still dressed like she'd come straight from Figure Eight. She glanced around before approaching, making sure nobody had followed her.
“I shouldn't be here,” she said quietly.
John B stepped closer. “Then why are you?”
Sarah hesitated before looking at the map.
“Because I think I can help you.”
JJ exchanged a look with Pope.
“That's reassuring,” he muttered. “The Kook princess is joining the treasure hunt.”
Sarah ignored him. “There's something you need to know. My friend has records about the Royal Merchant. Her dad has them.”
John B's expression changed immediately.
“Can you get them?”
“I can try.”
The others gathered around the map, suddenly more serious.
For the first time, the impossible treasure hunt felt like it might actually be leading somewhere.
None of them knew yet that Sarah's information was only the beginning—or that the next person who would become involved would come from the very Kook world they'd spent their lives fighting against.
