Westport, Connecticut. A quiet Saturday morning.
Katie Otto stood in her front yard with a cup of coffee, watching a line of expensive moving trucks pull through the neighborhood. A sleek black luxury car followed behind them before turning into the driveway of the enormous mansion at the end of the street.
Katie narrowed her eyes.
Katie: “Greg! Get out here! Either a billionaire just moved in next door, or someone is filming a reality show about people with too much money.”
Greg stepped onto the porch, adjusting his glasses as he stared at the mansion.
Greg: “That’s a pretty impressive house.”
Katie: “Impressive? Greg, that house has more windows than our entire neighborhood has functioning relationships.”
Across the street, Oliver appeared beside them, already holding his phone.
Oliver: “I looked up the property. Mom, this place is worth millions. Possibly tens of millions.”
Katie: “Of course you looked it up.”
Oliver: “I have a responsibility to understand the competition.”
Just then, the front door of the mansion opened. The new homeowner stepped outside as movers carried expensive furniture through the entrance.
Katie straightened, put on her most artificial welcoming smile, and started toward the driveway.
Katie: “Well, I suppose it’s time to welcome our mysterious new neighbors.”
She glanced back at Greg.
Katie: “And if they’re snobs, I’m blaming you for not warning me.”
