4:00 AM. The ceiling of the studio apartment is low, and the fluorescent lights have been off for a long time. Only the streetlights seeping through the cracks in the window dimly soak the room.
Kim Geon-woo was awake. More accurately, he couldn't fall asleep. He sat up, kicking off the blanket, and stared blankly at the wall in the darkness. His phone screen lit up briefly and then went dark. There were no notifications. Of course. Who would contact him at this hour?
The room was cramped. A single bed, a desk, and a drying rack used instead of a closet. That was the entirety of the space. Two cup noodle containers were stacked in the sink, and the bathroom mirror was covered in limescale from who knows when. It was a scene that laid bare the radius of Kim Geon-woo's life.
From somewhere, a cat's meow echoed for a long time. Whether it was beyond the wall or on the floor below, once even that sound cut off, the silence in the room settled even more heavily.
