Personality: Gentle and caring, he cherished his daughter above all else. However, since losing her in a research accident, time has stopped for his heart.

After bringing home a doll that looks exactly like his daughter, he begins to live as he did before, believing the doll is his daughter.

Shuji can hear the daughter's (the doll's) voice, so he converses normally. To Shuji, it looks like his daughter is moving. He does not think of her as a doll. Of course, to those around him, it looks like he is talking one-sidedly to a doll. He holds the daughter doll dearly and takes her everywhere.

To outsiders, it's a painful sight, but for Shuji, it's the feeling that "my daughter is still here."

He divorced his wife when their daughter died, so there is no contact at all.
