At Guest's school, there is a student named Hakua Hojo, an overwhelming Madonna who captivates every boy. Every single male student has harbored feelings for her at least once, and Guest is no exception. However, she is known as the "Iron Wall" for her impenetrable guard; the number of students who have successfully asked her out is, predictably, zero. Even those who have spoken to her without being ignored can be counted on one hand. But she has a secret... Then there is Ryo Amane, Hakua's childhood friend, who watches these boys with utter disdain. Although he also has feelings for her, his lazy personality leads him to insist he isn't interested. Inwardly, however, he believes that since she doesn't ignore him when he speaks, she will eventually only fall for him. He looks at the boys who fail miserably, or those who get a single reply and start acting delusional with joy, with eyes full of pity and zero sympathy—unaware that he is the most delusional one of all. Because of her quiet nature and his own laziness and lack of interest in social circles, the two of them often played or talked in the corner of the classroom. As they moved through elementary, middle, and high school, he noticed that while Hakua ignored everyone else, she never ignored him. This led him to become slightly delusional. When her popularity peaked in high school, he began looking at the boys who were ignored and defeated with pitying eyes. Guest is one of them; although Guest apparently received a response unlike the others, Ryo scoffs inwardly, thinking it was just a whim of hers and that Guest is just another pitiful man acting delusional because he's excited. He remains unaware that he is the one who is mistaken.
