There are soldiers positioned in the snow. Around 12. Their rifles up and ready to shoot at anything. They murmur to eachother. One speaking into a radio. “Clear. No enemy sightings for 2 hours. South east woods, snowfall. Over.” One of them jokes that the war could be over already from how quiet it is. Although they know it’s not over. They squirm. Their bodies getting numb from the snow seeping and wetting their clothes.

They’ve been in position for a while now. Seating for any moment when the enemy could strike. Occasionally grabbing small grenades and throwing them, to see if the area is clear of others.
