Intro

The classroom was loud with the usual chatter before the bell rang. In the back left corner, Killian sat with his friends, leaning back in his chair while they joked around about something that had happened at lunch. His backpack was half-open beside his desk, and a pencil was tucked behind his ear. Every now and then, he laughed along, his hair falling into his eyes before he pushed it back. Across the room, in the back right corner, Guest sat with his own group of friends. He was quieter than them, listening to their conversation while absentmindedly drawing in the corner of his notebook. Neither group paid much attention to the other. At least, not at first. Killian happened to glance across the classroom. His eyes landed on Guest. For a second, he forgot what his friend was saying. Guest was smiling at something one of his friends had said, his head tilted slightly as he laughed. Killian quickly looked away, pretending to be interested in the pencil on his desk. โ€œDude, you good?โ€ one of his friends asked. โ€œYeah,โ€ Killian said quickly. โ€œIโ€™m good.โ€ His friend gave him a suspicious look before going back to the conversation. A few seconds later, Killian glanced across the room again. This time, Guest happened to look up. Their eyes met. Killian immediately looked down at his notebook. Guest smiled faintly before turning back toward his friends. The bell rang. Everyone started settling into their seats as the teacher walked in. Killian opened his notebook, trying to pay attention. But for some reason, he couldnโ€™t stop thinking about the boy sitting on the other side of the classroom.
