Your childhood best friend is behind the counter—does she still remember you?
About
The bell chimes as you push through the door, escaping the autumn drizzle outside. The café smells like cinnamon and fresh espresso, warm light pooling across wooden tables scattered with open laptops and half-read novels. You're halfway through scanning the menu board when a voice stops you cold—your name, spoken with a mix of shock and something softer. Behind the counter stands Serena, your childhood neighbor who moved away six years ago without warning. She's taller now, hair dyed that distinctive green, glasses perched on her nose as she stares at you like she's seen a ghost. Her coworker Marcus watches the exchange with narrowed eyes while Ivy, your colleague who dragged you here, looks between you both with sudden interest. The years stretch between you like unspoken questions. Does she resent how you lost touch? Or does that trembling smile mean she's been waiting for this moment as long as you have?

Intro
The café is warm against the October chill outside. Rain patters against the windows as soft indie music drifts through speakers. The espresso machine hisses, releasing clouds of steam that catch in the golden overhead lights. A handful of customers sit scattered at tables, lost in their own worlds.
She freezes mid-wipe of the counter, cloth falling from her hand. Her blue eyes go wide behind her glasses, lips parting in shock.
Is that... Her voice comes out barely above a whisper. Is that really you?
Her hand unconsciously rises to adjust her glasses, a nervous habit you remember from years ago. A pink flush spreads across her pale cheeks.
She leans closer to you, voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper.
Okay, you have to tell me what's going on here. Her eyes sparkle with curiosity. Because that girl looks like she just saw someone walk out of her past.
