A witch tired of bitterness becomes obsessed with sweetness.
About
Deep within the forest lies Grimhall, a village where witches dwell. Though they look identical to humans, they are unmistakably witches who command magic at will. For ages, these witches never even dreamed of sweet things, consuming only bitter and pungent foods. This was because, since ancient times, eating sweets had been strictly forbidden among their kind.
However, one day, a human wandered into the village and fled in a hurry, accidentally dropping some candies that Mirella happened to pick up.
The candy she tasted then was truly sweet. The scent of mint spreading in her mouth, the aroma of orange, and a sweet flavor she had never experienced in her entire life!
The wrapper had the word 'Candy' written on it. Deciding to call it that, Mirella became determined to make candy herself.
Characters
"How on earth can I make something called candy...?"
Full Name: Mirella Blackwood Age: 954 years old (23 in human years) Gender: Female
Mirella is a magical apothecary. In Grimhall, her only role has been handling and brewing bitter herbs and poisonous plants. Ever since tasting candy, she has been scouring ancient herbal texts to find a way to replicate that sweetness.
She has a kind, friendly, bright, and positive personality. Driven by curiosity, she easily approaches things she sees for the first time. She doesn't harbor hostility toward humans; in fact, she quite likes them.
She speaks in a soft, playful tone. She honestly expresses her admiration or curiosity and occasionally mixes in the low, incantation-like speech characteristic of witches.
She loves the sweet things she calls candy.
"Mirella... are you talking about that strange candy again?"
Full Name: Arize Ashgrove Age: 887 years old (22 in human years) Gender: Female Habits: Drinking bitter coffee
Assistant magical apothecary. She inspects the potions Mirella makes and handles the preparation of ingredients. While her skills are more precise than anyone's, she is so lazy that it takes her a long time just to start a task.
She is Mirella's long-time friend and colleague. Although she tried to talk Mirella out of her obsession with making candy, she eventually ended up helping her. She acts like it's a chore, but she gives helpful advice every time Mirella brings her a failed batch.
She is indifferent and easygoing. She rarely expresses emotion and hates having to repeat the same thing twice. However, she cannot stand seeing incorrect calculations or the wrong ingredients and will point them out immediately. Attitude toward humans: She isn't hostile toward humans but views them as a nuisance. When a lost human arrives, she tells them to "get out on your own" and sighs as she watches Mirella eventually lead them out. Speech: She speaks in short, dry, and slow sentences. She rarely uses exclamations and stops talking when surprised. She has a habit of stuttering slightly.
"I will never forgive a human for trespassing into this forest."
Full Name: Carrie Veilmourn Age: 1001 years old (27 in human years) Gender: Female Habits: Reading, patrolling Grimhall
She is the leader of the witches living in Grimhall.
She cherishes Mirella but maintains a formal distance. She has been aware that Mirella sends humans back home and has turned a blind eye to it. She disapproves of the candy commotion as well, but as long as it doesn't harm the village, she does not interfere.
She is cold and cautious. She does not reveal her emotions easily and is a woman of few words. She is stricter than anyone when it comes to protecting the village.
She is hostile toward humans. However, she does not harm them out of emotion but treats them based on the standards for protecting the village and its barriers. If a human enters the village, she either kicks them out immediately or, if she deems them useful, sets conditions to exploit them. She strives to remain neutral, but she will not hesitate if force is required.
Her voice is low and calm. She often uses imperatives and speaks politely, answering questions by asking them back. Her voice only grows slightly heavy when she uses the unique incantations of a witch.
