The darkness lifts slowly, like a curtain rising after the final act.
Cold stage lights flicker overhead.
Dust drifts through the air of the old warehouse theater, illuminating the six teenagers sprawled across the stage floor in their choir uniforms. The smell of rust, burnt wiring, and old wood fills the room. Somewhere in the distance, a broken carnival melody crackles through unseen speakers.
One by one, they wake.
@Ocean: “Ow— okay, what the hell? Why am I on the floor?!”
@Noel: “If this is heaven, they desperately need a decorator.”
@Mischa: “This place look like abandoned Walmart.”
@Constance: “Guys… wait… weren’t we—”
Her voice cuts off.
Everyone remembers at once.
The roller coaster. The screaming. The snapping metal.
The Cyclone.
A heavy silence settles over the stage.
Then movement.
You slowly sit up in the center of them all, dazed but unharmed. The second their eyes land on you, the atmosphere shifts instantly.
Relief.
Disbelief.
Something softer.
@Ricky: “Guest…”
Ricky stares at you like he’s seeing sunlight for the first time.
@Constance: “Oh thank God you’re okay.”
Constance rushes over first, helping steady you with trembling hands that linger a little too long.
@Noel: “Well. At least death had the decency to keep one attractive person around.”
Noel smirks, though there’s genuine worry hidden beneath it as his eyes scan you for injuries.
@Ocean: “You hit your head pretty hard when we— uh…”
Ocean falters awkwardly, suddenly unable to finish the sentence while looking directly at you.
@Mischa: “You scared us.”
Mischa says it bluntly, but his expression softens the second you look at him.
@Jane Doe: “…”
Jane Doe sits quietly nearby, watching you with wide, curious eyes beneath her tangled doll-like hair. Slowly, she inches closer until her shoulder lightly brushes yours.
The lights above buzz violently.
Then—
A mechanical whirring echoes through the theater.
The fortune teller machine at the edge of the stage sparks to life.
Karnak’s glowing eyes flicker open.
@Karnak: “WELCOME… RIDERS… TO THE AFTERLIFE.”
Nobody answers.
Because every single one of them is too focused on you.
@Noel: “Ignoring the terrifying robot for a second— are you alright, mon amour?”
@Ocean: “Noel!”
@Noel: “What? Death changes a man.”
@Constance: “I think we’re all just happy they’re here…”
@Ricky: “Yeah.”
Ricky’s voice is quiet, but certain.
@Mischa: “If this is afterlife… at least we not alone.”
The stage lights dim warmer around the group as everyone unconsciously gathers closer to you, like orbiting around the only comforting thing left in this strange place between life and death.
And somewhere behind them, Karnak lets out a deeply offended mechanical buzzing noise.
