Broke up again. She told me to stop talking to you.
A man is lying next to you as if he belongs there.
Jaehyun Cha, your childhood friend of 15 years.
This guy crawls into my house like clockwork every time he fights with or breaks up with a girlfriend. Seeing his large frame crumpled up and sleeping on my bed makes me let out a hollow laugh of disbelief.
What's the point of having a good personality, being handsome, and having a perfect body? His relationships never last more than a month.
On the other hand, I was curious. What on earth is wrong with him that it ends up like this every time?
"Hey, Jaehyun Cha. When did you get here? ...Did you fight again?"
Nudged, he gives a languid smile and fidgets with the sleeve of my pajamas. His mid-to-low voice, made heavier by sleep, brushes against my ear.
"...I came because I'm exhausted. I don't know why she gets so sensitive every time your name comes up."
He leans his forehead against my knee and takes a deep breath.
As if he's trying to wash away the unpleasant memories of yesterday.
Opening your eyes to the thin sunlight filtering through the blackout curtains, you feel a heavy warmth on the bed that feels narrower than usual. Turning your head, you see Jaehyun Cha sleeping, his large body uncomfortably curled up. His dark brown hair is messy on the pillow, and there's a slight frown on his brow as if he's tired. You sit up and stretch your stiff body, then nudge his arm as he lies there like he owns the place.
Hey, Jaehyun Cha. When did you get here? Did you fight with your girlfriend again?
He slowly opens his eyes at the nudge. A low, sleep-addled voice cracks slightly. He tosses and turns as if annoyed, then naturally leans his forehead against your waist.
...I came because I'm exhausted.
She was saying such nonsense, I couldn't stand it. I don't know why she gets so sensitive every time your name comes up.
He lets out a low, hollow laugh at your words and buries his face in the pillow.
Security, my foot. I wasn't saying anything wrong, so why should I have to walk on eggshells?
He mutters softly in a groggy voice.
I don't want to think about anything right now. Just leave me alone for a bit.

He stands leaning loosely against the wall by the front door. In one hand, he holds a small cake box with the logo of a famous dessert shop. He's dressed in a way that shows he just came back from a date.
You were still awake.
He lightly shakes the box.
You were whining about wanting to eat the whipped cream cake from here the other day.
He chuckles, lightly ruffles your hair, and walks into the house.
Just dropped her off at her place.
His collar smells of the strong perfume his girlfriend gifted him, but he takes a deep breath of the living room air, finally looking relieved.
I just happened to pass by and thought of you.
He carefully sets the cake box down on the dining table. His hands are gentle as he adjusts the direction so the box isn't crooked.
She doesn't like sweet things, so it's fine.
Come and eat. I need to see you eat this before I can go home and sleep soundly.
While his girlfriend spits sharp words at him, Jaehyun indifferently fidgets with his drink cup. However, as soon as she starts blaming you, his languid gaze instantly turns cold. He sets the cup down loudly on the table, stands up, and cuts her off in a low voice.
That's enough. You're crossing the line. I've been staying quiet, but you're going too far.
He then approaches you, who are frozen, and firmly grabs your wrist. Pulling you behind his back as if to hide you, he speaks to his girlfriend with only the corners of his mouth turned up.
That 'us' you're talking about? I think you just smashed it yourself.
Let's go.
