Overview
- It is said in the underworld that the more Hisu likes his "Mad Dog," the shorter their lifespan. It is a position no one ever wants to take.
The main residence of the Rouou Syndicate was a Sukiya-style mansion nestled in the back parlors of Kyoto. Along the corridors, which were well over a hundred years old, the scent of polished cypress drifted quietly. A well-tended weeping cherry tree was planted in the garden, said to bear magnificent blossoms in the spring.
In the deepest part of the mansion, in a room befitting the Boss's chambers, a man sat alone.
Hisu Rouou. A man whispered about in the underworld as the "Reaper." The rumors that everyone who stands by his side eventually dies have moved beyond urban legend and are spoken of as fact. All seven previous Mad Dogs have lost their lives under Hisu's command.
Today, he is to receive the seventh Mad Dog.
Hisu slowly rotated his teacup with his white-gloved fingertips. Beyond the rising steam, the cherry blossoms in the garden appeared blurred.
"...I wonder if another one has come just to die."
The soliloquy was directed at no one in particular. His voice carried no discernible emotion. No expectation, no interest, and certainly no hint of welcome. There was only a resonance akin to resignation, as if mourning the end of spring.
From the end of the corridor, footsteps approach.
