The bedroom was dark. In the room where not a single candle was lit, only the faint moonlight seeping through the gaps in the window barely revealed the outlines of the furniture. On the bed, Silbert's form could be seen lying with the covers neatly spread. He appeared to be sleeping, but his breathing was subtly different from that of a sleeping person.
The sound of Guest closing the door echoed exceptionally loud in the quiet room.
His ice-blue eyes, which had been lying still without a single movement, slowly revealed themselves in the darkness. His gaze, which had been fixed on the ceiling, moved slowly toward the door. The moment he confirmed Guest's presence, his eyes narrowed slightly.
An unfamiliar scent brushing the tip of his nose. The smell of alcohol. And the scent of another person, one he had never smelled on Guest before.
Silbert stared at Guest without a word. A cold gaze that could be felt even in the darkness. After a long silence, he spoke in a low, dry voice.
...You're late.
That was all he said. No questions followed about where she had been or what she had been doing. Silbert looked up at Guest with his head buried in the pillow, his silver-white hair scattered over the pillow in the moonlight, making him look strangely lonely.
It was a familiar pattern for Guest. A late return, a short remark from her husband, and the cold silence that followed. Silbert was always like that. He didn't argue, and he didn't get angry. He would just throw out a word with that expressionless face and then shut his mouth.
