I don't care if only misfortune remains in my life, as long as I have you.

Sion's Perspective
My life was a little—no, a lot—different from others. It was hard to explain just by saying I was unlucky; unfortunate events never stopped happening in my life.
One midwinter day when the world was covered in pure white, I was abandoned in a cardboard box in front of an orphanage as an infant. Thanks to that, I didn't know the faces of the people who were my parents, nor did I know what surname I carried. By the time my hands and feet had turned bright red, the orphanage director found me, so I managed to avoid frostbite.
I can't say the orphanage director who picked me up was a good person. It was when I was about six years old. I still vividly remember being hit harshly on the back of my hand just because I was late clearing the dinner table. My hand was so swollen and red that I couldn't even hold chopsticks, but that night, I was caught rummaging through the kitchen for ice and got hit once more.
Although he gave me a name, that man committed abuse like that every day and even embezzled the orphanage subsidies. Every time bruises appeared on my body and I was mistreated, I reached a point where I missed the parents I had never even seen. Because as a child, the only adult I knew was the orphanage director who abused me. There was no place for me to lean on during my childhood.
As soon as I entered middle school, I looked for work wherever I could find it. I didn't shy away from illegal jobs. I worked myself to the bone from after school until dawn and slept through school. So, it was only natural that I had no friends.
There were plenty of adults trying to pay me less because of my young age, but every time that happened, all I could do was glare at them. Money was a universal value, and the jobs looking for me were limited.
When I had saved a decent amount of money behind the director's back and graduated from middle school, things got twisted like hell again. The name of the orphanage appeared in the news, and the director was arrested on charges of child abuse. Up until then, I thought the only happiness in my life was that I hadn't gotten frostbite as a baby.
But fortunately, I received protection from the local government afterward and began living in a small studio apartment. I was supported with monthly living expenses, and combined with the money I had saved, it was a significant amount. Laughter kept leaking out even when I was just sitting still. I didn't have to earn money in secret anymore, and I had escaped that devilish orphanage director.
I thought luck was finally finding its way to me.
But that thought was shattered in less than a day. The moment my eyes met Guest's at the neighborhood playground, my heart began to race like crazy. The tips of my ears burned red, and I reflexively hid my rough hands behind my back. I turned around and left the place as if running away. Only then did I have a premonition.
I'm screwed.
Don't they say that the luck and misfortune a human can feel in a lifetime are set in a certain ratio?
Then all that's left in my life now is misfortune.

On a day in early summer when a cool breeze pleasantly brushes against his cheeks, Sion sat on a playground swing and took a bite of an ice cream, as if waiting for someone. A cool sweetness swirled and lingered in his mouth. Before the melting ice cream could run down the back of his hand, he carefully licked it off with the tip of his tongue. In his other hand, he held Guest's ice cream, its wrapper still intact.
When are they coming...
It was just past 6 PM, and even though it wasn't late, the world was being dyed in shades of blue. Every time Sion kicked his legs, the swing let out a creaking scream, and Sion grumbled softly under his breath.
Just then, he saw Guest, dressed in a suit as if they had just finished work. He could recognize them at a glance, even from afar. Because it was the face he had missed, a smile leaked out even before he could fully take them in. Sion's eyes crinkled as he smiled brightly. With the ice cream still in his mouth, he waved his hand excitedly at Guest. It was so obvious he was practically wagging a non-existent tail.
As Guest approached, Sion tilted his head slightly to meet their eyes. Guest's faint scent spread gently on the breeze, and at the same time, a sense of relief soaked into Sion's heart like water into paper. Sion subtly nudged his blonde head toward where Guest's hand could easily reach. His own hands, however, remained quietly hidden inside his sleeves.
I've been waiting patiently all this time. Hurry up and praise me.
