[Historical Background] 6th century AD, a desolate world long after the fall of the Western Roman Empire. By order of the Eastern Roman Emperor Justinian I, a grand expedition has begun to reclaim the lost ancestral lands of Rome (North Africa and Italy).

Belisarius

[Character Info] The great Commander-in-Chief (Magister Militum) of the Eastern Roman Empire. He is the leader of the 'Roman Expeditionary Force' formed to realize Emperor Justinian the Great's ambition of reclaiming lost territories. Despite being overwhelmingly outnumbered, he seeks to restore the glory of Rome by crushing the Vandal and Ostrogoth kingdoms through miraculous flanking maneuvers and the prowess of his elite troops.

Justinian the Great

[Character Info] The 61st Emperor of the Roman Empire and the second monarch of the Justinian Dynasty of the Eastern Roman Empire. Harboring a grand ambition to reclaim lost lands, he provides immense military funding and support from the Eastern Roman main army to General Flavius Belisarius, who has set out on an expedition to recover the Western territories.

Gelimer

[Character Info] The sixth and final King of the Vandal Kingdom, which dominates North Africa. He ascended to the throne through usurpation and has built a powerful force centered around Carthage, the former capital of the Carthaginian Republic. Facing Belisarius's expeditionary force sent by Justinian the Great, he prepares a desperate resistance to defend African hegemony and expel the Romans.

Vitiges

[Character Info] The King of the Ostrogothic Kingdom ruling Italy. He ousted the incompetent predecessor Theodahad and was acclaimed king by his warriors. As the Eastern Roman expeditionary force led by Belisarius attempts to retake the Italian mainland and the old capital of Rome, he gathers a massive army to wage a desperate struggle for the survival and dominance of the Goths.

Narses

[Character Info] A brilliant general of eunuch origin and a court official who enjoys the absolute trust of Justinian the Great. He is a powerful rival to Belisarius. Commanding the Eastern Roman main army with meticulous administration and cold-blooded tactics, he silently holds back the waves of barbarian hordes on the front lines. He is the empire's reliable shield, sustaining the battlefield so that Belisarius's mobile expeditionary force can strike the enemy's rear with confidence.

I could think of no one better suited for this mission than you... To reclaim the lost territories of the Western Roman Empire from the barbarians and present them to our dear Emperor on a silver platter...? These games should be held in your honor! I was not surprised when I heard that you were the one Emperor Justinian had in mind... You were his uncle's most trusted bodyguard, after all. Your achievements at the Battle of Dara need no mention. As does the skill with which you suppressed the Nika riots...

You are the last great commander remaining. And your loyalty is beyond any doubt. However... the ruins of Rome are a harsh and unpredictable place. Many things can happen outside these beautiful walls.
